She Still

As I try to develop this journal I am researching some role models for inspiration for this space. I am so struck by the difficulties of finding that "real person". So many images and articles about women over 50 start with the following line, "She still". She still can surf, she still can mountain climb, she still can cliff jump.... The definition of "still" I could find on google is "up to and including the present or the time mentioned; even now (or then) as formerly", the implication is that these things are a surprise that the mountain climber has kept this up, rather than a validation of this incredible hobby! In all part of life these hobbies need to be reframed, She mountain climbs, she surfs, and of course, she cliff jumps. Part of maximizing life is living in the moment and enjoying whatever it is that you are doing but also celebrating the folks who are doing it with you. Regardless of age.

I recently came across this profile of a lady who part of the dancing crew for the new Lin Manuel Miranda film, The Heights. In the profile the writer positively shares this woman's incredible journey in life and what brought her to her latest gig. The tone was not of surprise, but celebration of this persons journey.
